Lake Minnetonka

Legendary Lake Minnetonka

One of the most well known lakes in the United States, Lake Minnetonka has been known as a resort destination ever since its recorded history.  The lake itself is made up of 125 miles of shoreline and draws in anyone who has a love of lake life, as well as the city.

Lake Minnetonka, with its vast amount of activities, entertainment, natural areas, and neighboring communities is also only 20 minutes away from Minneapolis, making Lake Minnetonka real estate, especially lakefront property, very high in demand.

The homes along Lake Minnetonka vary in size and style; many are steeped in history but most command enough attention that boat cruises tour the lake specifically for these homes.  For many people, it is a dream to find a Lake Minnetonka home for sale.

A Rich History

Lake Minnetonka and the surrounding areas and communities are rich in history. Founded in 1972, the Excelsior, Lake Minnetonka Historical Society provides historical resources for the communities of Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood, Shorewood, and Tonka Bay.  The Society’s museum and archives are free and open to the public, and hold the largest collection of historic artifacts and documents in the area.

The Museum of Lake Minnetonka is a non-profit organization located at Lake Minnetonka that basically operates the historic Steamboat Minnehaha, and in so doing, promotes the fascinating early history of Lake Minnetonka. The MLM is a ‘floating’ museum and presently does not have a store front.
